Man-Up: Promoting the Unpopular Prostate Exam for Sherman
09.19.2011
September is Prostate Awareness Month, and for most men, that is a touchy subject. The idea of prostate exam is one that most men have no problem “forgetting” to add to their to-do list. However, it is one of the most important screenings that a man can get. Prostate cancer affects 1 in 6 men and is the most common non-skin cancer in America.
Promoting the prostate screenings at Sherman Health was not an easy task. How can you promote something that makes men cringe and look the other way?
We challenged them. The ads focused on women challenging the men in their lives to “Man Up” and get screened.
The success of this campaign was phenomenal. In 2010, Sherman had to set-up additional screenings in order to keep up with the men who scheduled their exams. This year, in 2011, there was a 94% turnout rate for men who scheduled their exam. That means that over 9 out of 10 men who scheduled their screening, manned up and went through with it.
As for women, here’s how we promoted Breast Cancer Awareness month at Sherman Health.
